EMPLOYMENT TERMS
Attitude
A certain disposition, perspective, or belief that affects a person’s behaviour.
Entrepreneurship
The quality of being an entrepreur; the act of identifying opportunities and mobilizing resources to bring about change in order to operate a venture.
Employability
Having the skills, knowledge and attitudes that are of value to an employer.
Job
One person’s regular tasks in a particular work situation (e.g. Chemical engineer at ABC Labs).
Occupation
A general name for a kind of work that people do in many different ways and places. Teaching is an occupation that includes kindergarten teachers, high school teachers, principals and many more.
Occupational Cluster
A group of related occupations that have similar job requirements or worker attributes. Examples, nurse, doctor, physiotherapist, and dietician are all part of the health – care occupational cluster.
Career
The combined total of all the events in a person’s life from the time he/she is born, including education, work, family, leisure activities and more.
Career Planning
Determining a suitable career path using knowledge of personal interests, skills, and preferred futures; researching the educational and skills requirement of a variety of potential work and life roles.
Transition
An instance or process of changing from one form, state or place to another; adjusting to change. It is a process or a series of events rather than a single event.
Labour Market
A broad term to describe a region’s entire work force usually used with information about trends, projections, growth sectors and skill levels, in relation to jobs.
Labour Market Information
Information about employment trends, projection, industry sectors, occupations and educational qualifications.
Career Decision Making
Developing skills and abilities to access information, to increase awareness about career opportunities and career pathways, and to be able to make rational decisions affecting one’s own career planning.
Career Planning
Determining a suitable career path using knowledge of personal interests, skills and preferred futures (dreams); researching the educational and skill requirements of a variety of potential work and life roles.
