Job Steps
The following are a few steps you should take in the search for a new job:

- Make yourself a list of all your skills (see transferable skills and check out Destination 2020)
- Prepare a resume – it must be neat and accurate (Resume Outline)
- Prepare a cover letter tailored to the specific position
- Develop a list of job possibilities
- Think about jobs related to those you have researched or connected to your career goals
- Apply for jobs that match your skills and experiences
- If you have little experience or training, look for a position that offers on-the-job training- check with any possible employer, even those who have not advertised job openings
- Use the telephone to save yourself some time to get information (name of employer, correct spelling, etc.)
- Obtain an application form if required and make sure that you photocopy it to make sure you don’t make any mistakes
- Tell everyone you can think of that you are searching
- For advice contact someone well established in the field in which you wish to work
- Put time into your search – the search itself is a job (How to Search for Work)
- If and when you get an interview – prepare yourself (Interview Skills)
